Basil Vodka Cocktail - A vodka gimlet
The gimlet is a cocktail made of gin and lime juice but this basil beverage is a spin-off made with delicious vodka instead of gin. We added lime juice and tonic water instead of soda water and made it tangy thanks to the fresh passionfruit.
Gimlets are a classic drink and especially beloved during the summer. Basil is very refreshing and together with vodka and tonic water, you get a delicious summery beverage. Basil together with lime juice made a great combination. The passionfruit adds that vitamin C kick to the cocktail, which works like a match made in heaven.
Add it over your ice and savour this undeniable delicious basil vodka cocktail.
How do the flavours of the cocktail combine?
As mentioned, basil and lime work really well together. We used vodka because it's a great alcohol base to absorb the flavours of the basil and lime, without altering the taste. We wanted passion fruit because of the added sweet-tangy experience.
If you find this drink too sour (it's possible for some) don't be shy to add 1 tsp of syrup to it. It will still work and the taste will be just as excellent (just a little sweeter).
The most important part of the cocktail is to ensure you strain the basil and passion fruit after you blend them with the lime juice. You'd want a smooth and easy to drink cocktail without any bits in it. Of course, you can add a leaf of fresh basil to your drink to make it look even more refreshing and appealing. Besides, the fresh basil will make the drink smell incredible and that's worth it.
Do serve it with ice cubes. We used a whisky glass but you can also use a different type of cocktail glass if you prefer.
What do I need to make this drink?
A shot glass for measuring the vodka would be ideal. A blender for the basil, passionfruit and lime juice. Whiskey glasses for the drinks. That's all you need. Simple and easy.
