These passion fruit martinis are super quick and easy to make and they are so delicious, your family and friends will ask for them over and over again. They work really well in a classy dinner context or for a relaxed evening drink on the patio.
What is passion fruit martini
A martini is a cocktail usually made with gin and vermouth although over the years it evolved into a complex of flavours. Some love a vodka martini, while others are picky with their garnishes (olives, lemon twist, lime or even mint). My passion fruit martini is a twist of the original, less alcoholic and more refreshing and fun. It contains just gin for the alcoholic base and it's topped with fresh orange juice and passion fruit for added flavour and tanginess.
To make a successful passion fruit cocktail you need to ensure it's not too sour, as sometimes, fresh passion fruit can overpower the whole cocktail. We like diluting the passion fruit with sweet orange juice, making it well balanced and delicious.
How to make a great passion fruit martini
To make these quick and easy passion fruit martinis, you will need your favourite gin (I used Hendricks), a passion fruit, around 1 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice, a little ginger for a bit of a kick and some mint to garnish your cocktail with. You can add ice cubes to your passion fruit cocktail to make it even more refreshing.
Add two shots of a gin in a cocktail shaker. Add the orange juice and the pulp from the passion fruit. Add the ginger and a few ice cubes if using. Shake well until the passion fruit cocktail becomes really frothy.
Now you have two options. You either pour your passion fruit martini in two glasses and leave the bits and passion fruit seeds in the cocktail or you strain the cocktail. I like the seeds and orange pulp in my passion fruit martini so I leave them as they are, but I know some people prefer a smooth cocktail. That's totally fine.
You can pick the best cocktail glass also. I like to use a coupe glass as I think it looks more elegant, but a V-shaped traditional martini glass also works.
