Quick & Easy Turmeric Shot
How to make an immune boosting turmeric shot with three simple ingredients. It's zesty, refreshing and healthy
If you are looking to boost your immune system drink a turmeric shot every morning before breakfast. Not only it's healthy thanks to its high vitamin C content and anti-inflammatory properties of the turmeric, but it's really tasty. Our turmeric shot is fully vegan, made with all-natural ingredients and gluten-free. It is however super citrusy and quite sour so if you don't love the taste of lemon juice, then you can replace the lemons with fresh oranges.
While the health benefits will be the same, the turmeric shot will be a little sweeter and less tangy. We do prefer the turmeric shot with fresh lemon juice because of the added vitamin C lemons contain. This turmeric shot is like a vitamin C bomb first thing for breakfast containing 25% of your daily recommended intake.
If you are ready to tackle the flu season and want a natural vitamin boost, then turmeric shot is your new best friend. So why is this turmeric shot so good for you?
Turmeric contains bioactive compounds with powerful medicinal properties. Curcumin is known to be an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects. So you are probably wondering, why not just eat turmeric on its own? Because curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. But if you consume black pepper with it which contains piperine, it helps absorb the curcumin by 2000%. (source)
So our turmeric shot contains fresh turmeric for your curcumin intake, with a dash of black pepper to help absorb all these goodies. We added fresh lemon juice so you can enjoy a massive boost of vitamin C which is a natural immune-boosting vitamin.
How to make turmeric shot
You need just 4 ingredients and a blender: fresh turmeric, fresh lemons (or oranges), water, and black pepper.
Squeeze the lemons into the blender, add the turmeric, the water and the black pepper and whiz until everything is well combined. Enjoy a turmeric shot a day. You can store the turmeric shots in a bottle in the fridge, but note that the turmeric adds a yellow tint to containers. So please consider this when picking the dedicated turmeric shots container. I use a dedicated glass bottle for turmeric only and reuse it over and over again.

How much raw turmeric please
Hey!
If I want to make 5 shots to last all week, what are the proportions? How many lemons and how much much turmeric and water do I need? x
This recipe makes 6 shots!
Can add ginger?
Oh def! It would be delicious!
Hi sorry might be a silly question but I really don't understand the measurement for the fresh tumeric
How much to put in ? And how to cut it into the blender
Thank you x
3/4 of a weight ounce of fresh turmeric is approximately 21.26 grams.
It's basically around 3 inches of fresh turmeric
Do u strain the tumeric after blending?
I don't! I just blend it and eat it with the bits. You can strain it if the bits are too much for you.
Have you tried it with a combination of lemons and organge?
I've tried it with lemons and orange and it tastes fantastic. Feel free to experiment a little. Citrus for the win!
Can I make the turmeric shots two to three days ahead?
Yes you can! But it's best fresh!
will I turn yellow, a friend of mine has be drinking turmeric for years and he is very yellow. His doctor says his liver and kidneys are fine so, do you think its the turmeric?
I am not a doctor and have not heard of that issue before. Please do ask your GP if you are worried about consuming turmeric.
Can you use powdered Tumeric rather than fresh? If so, how much?
Hi Deb, unfortunately not. For this recipe, you definitely need fresh turmeric. Without it, it won't have the same taste and consistency.
Found this really easy and a a lot cheaper
They £1.20p for a small shot bottle in the supermarket
I’d love to be able to get more recipes of these healthy shots I can do myself
Thank you so much, Elaine. You are right, they are costly in the supermarket, but they are so easy (and much cheaper) to make at home. Besides, it's all fresh ingredients, so you know i't going to be healthy and good for you. x
Do you need to peel the turmeric first?
Hi Erin, I never do. I just wash it well. However, I know some people like to peel it gently with a knife blade.
I take meds first thing in morning. Have to wait 4 hours to consume other potentially interactive substances. So, around 2pm l make up the shot. Still get the effect and lasts until bedding down at 11pm.
I think I won't need to experiment with turmeric drinks anymore because I've found the perfect one. It certainly looks like it is. Can't wait to test!
I drink plain lemon water in the morning -- now I can add a boost to it. I don't think I've ever seen fresh turmeric -- is it in the grocery store. Could I substitute the powder? I'm really excited about this recipe.
These turmeric shots are the healthiest! Will get into the habit of having them, with my husband. Thank you for sharing!
Oh wow this sounds absolutely delicious and healthy! And I'm loving how easy this is! I can't wait to try it!
This looks so good and healthy too! I love recipes that use turmeric and this is super easy to make. Thanks for the recipe! :)
This recipe couldn't come at a better time! With everything going on, I've been trying to stay as healthy as possible, and this is a great and easy way to do just that.
I love this little shot of WONDERFULLNESS! I mean seriously, this is the best way to start your day. The fresh turmeric and lemon is the perfect flavor combination.

I am so madly in love with turmeric. I can have it all day every single day. So healthy too
This recipe looks simple and easy to make. Makes for the perfect start to the dayQ
I agree. The perfect vitamin C way to start the day
I have just recently heard of some of the amazing benefits of adding Turmeric into your diet. My mother was scheduled have a knee replacement earlier this year, but she started taking Turmeric on a regular basis and now her knee feels amazing. She was able to cancel her surger (at least for now). So crazy how much Turmeric has helped! This is a great recipe!
No, honestly, we don't give enough credits to all the amazing plants available to us. Turmeric is such a cool root and it actually tastes amazing paired with ginger, orange or lemon
I am ready for shots if they are turmeric shots. :-) Fantastic way to start a day, and a great recipe to follow, too!
Let's do this! Morning 30 day turmeric shot challenge
Ahh my goodness I used to do these all the time. Turmeric is SO amazing for you and definitely felt a major difference. I need to start again! Thanks for this easy recipe!
Right? I too feel such a huge difference. I love them for breakfast. They also increased my appetite but not for junk food but for real food. They are awesome
I know that they are very popular, but I never had them before.... I think it's time to make and try ;)
It is time! haha You will love turmeric shots. They are so good and healthy also
Oh this is perfect. We were just reading about turmeric the other day and were hoping to find some delicious ways to add it to our diet!
Turmeric can be really strong in taste so paired with orange or lemon juice to have it as a turmeric shot for breakfast is much better
I am really amazed of how turmeric can benefit our body. I will definitely make a habit of taking Turmeric Shots everyday.
I love the idea of such healthy shots, but I'm afraid I'd have to add my weight in honey to be able to enjoy this. You guys are brave! Guess I'll have to pass up on the lemons and add the turmeric and black pepper to a carrot concentrate!
Haha I don't blame you, Eva! I know what you mean, my husband struggles with them so he kinda needs to drink it fast at my order :P then follow up with some chocolate or something sweet. But, if you add a tad bit of agave syrup they do taste milder and better for those who don't like sour turmeric shots.
I learned so much from reading this post! For example, I didn't know that black pepper aids in curcumin absorption! I also really liked that you gave the option of using orange juice, but still explained the advantages of lemon juice and why you prefer it. So interesting - great post (and lovely photos)!
Thank you so much. Food photography is a secret passion of mine. I'm still at the beginning of the journey but trying my very best. The peppercorn thing blew my mind when I read about it. I've been drinking turmeric shots without it, until I came across a journal which explains it all. WOW
